Amaresh, a resident of Vijayapura in the North Karnataka region, worked as a mason in the city. During the day, he worked as a concrete worker and at night he burgled houses. There were as many as seven cases registered against him in various stations within the city.
A year ago, the city police had arrested him and he was sent to Parappana Agrahara prison. At the prison, he met a few more thieves and together, they decided to carry out only high stake burglaries to ensure that they earn good money.
They then formed a gang of six people. Three were given the task of finding suitable targets where the owners were on vacation. These three people would visit posh areas and fix a target. In the night time, the other three members of the gang would rob the marked house and on June 11, they robbed the house of MV Murthy, a retired IGP under the HSR police limits.
Then, on July 26, when the Ramamurthynagar police were carrying out their night patrol, they came upon Amaresh and his gang. At first, the gang was arrested for being pickpockets but, after further investigations, the cops found that Amaresh is the leader of the gang that burgled the retired IGP’s house. All members of the gang are presently in police custody.
