Bengaluru:- Perverts these days have found a new hobby – clicking pictures of random women in various poses. But four gutsy women out shopping in UB City taught two elderly ‘gentlemen’ a lesson that they will not forget in a hurry. And maybe using their phone’s camera will send shivers down their spine.
The four women were at UB City a day after New Year to check out the decorations and catch up. They were taking pictures of the installation on the second floor when one of them noticed two old men taking their pictures on the sly. She alerted the others and the four decided to confront the two men. They snatched the mobile phones and deleted their pictures.
When they were surrounded by the four women, the two men – both aged 59 — started arguing with them and used abusive language. They also allegedly tried to manhandle the women. The mall authorities then came to the rescue of the women and the Cubbon Park police were summoned to the mall. The police took both the men into custody.
The two have been identified as Purushotham, a resident of Chikkalasandra and Subramanya, a resident of Subramanyapura. Both are said to be friends and had come to the CBD to see the New Year installations.
“Purushotham works as a realtor and Subramanya works as an electrical contractor. Both are married and have children. CCTV footage of the incident has also been examined. The two have confessed to having misbehaved with the women. The duo has been arrested on charges of sexual harassment,” said an officer part of the investigations.
“The women have also accused the two men of using profanities. The victims pulled the mobile phone from Purushotham and deleted the pictures which he had taken. The other accused Subramanya deleted the pictures on his own.
“The incident took place around 5 pm. The two were arrested on Tuesday evening at around 7.30 pm. The mobile phones of the accused have also been seized,” the officer added.
The Cubbon Park police have registered a case (FIR No- 3/2018) under section 354A (sexual harassment), 509 (act intended to insult the modesty of women) of the Indian Penal Code.
