Mangaluru’s Ice Cream innovator Mukund Kamath wins 8 national awards

Ideal Ice cream won maximum awards in 'The Great Indian Ice Cream and Frozen Dessert Contest'

Mangaluru: Mangaluru’s very own ice cream innovator, entrepreneur Mukund Kamath, has once again won 8 awards including three all India awards during Season 6 of ‘The Great Indian Ice Cream and Frozen Dessert Contest’ for his innovative products.

His ‘Ideal Ice Cream’ won the maximum awards among the 103 participants in the contest organized by DuPont Nutrition and Health and the Indian Dairy Association. The panel of judges consisted of world-renowned Ice Cream specialists and 25 judges from leading food and beverage companies. Popular television host and food anchor Maria Goretti presented the awards, during a ceremony on November 16 at Hotel Le Meridian, Gurugram.

Mukund Kamath said, “It is indeed a proud moment for entire Ideal Ice Cream team to win 8 awards at the national level. I dedicate these awards to all Mangaloreans and I feel Mangaluru is truly becoming the Ice Cream capital of India. This is the hard work of an entire team and family, friends, distributors and valuable suggestions of customers encouraged us to achieve this feat.”

speaking about the contest, Kamath said, “there were 6 Best in India awards and we have won three. Our innovative product ‘Marzi Paan’ was a main attraction at the contest and our Vanilla standard Ice Cream has won Gold back to back for three years”

Ideal Ice Cream has been continuously winning awards from the year 2008 at this contest. This year they have won three ‘Best in India’ awards, four Gold awards and one Silver award. In 2008 Ideal Ice Cream had won 4 awards, followed by 2 awards in 2009, 3 awards in 2010, 5 awards in 2013 and 4 awards in 2016.

Best in Class for Sorbet – Mango Sorbet (More than AAM)
Best in Class for Innovation (Marzi Paan)
Best in Class for Vanilla Frozen Dessert
Gold for Vanilla Ice cream
Gold for Sorbet (More than AAM)
Gold for Vanilla Frozen Dessert
Gold for Most Innovative (Marzi Paan)
Silver for Chocolate (Swiss Chocolate)

There were more than 380 entries in 6 categories. For the first time ‘Sorbet’ was introduced as one of the categories in the contest, to further endorse its popularity as a healthier fruit-infused frozen alternative in the Ice Cream market.

One of the show stealers of the contest was Marzi Paan, a first of its kind ice cream. It won Best in Class for the Innovation award. This unique artificial Paan mixed with Ice cream served cold. Another product, Mango Sorbet won Best in Class for Sorbet award.

Kamath, who has given us creative yet traditional Ice cream favorites like ‘Bella Candy’ or the Jaggery Candy, ‘Panak Candy’ in this contest introduced yet another treat called ‘iPizza’. Though it didn’t get any award, was much appreciated by the renowned panelists.
