Bengaluru : Good news for Bengalureans coming from BBMP and BMRCL, If all goes well, Silk Board junction which is known for a nightmare for traffic is likely to become traffic free in three to four years.
To build a traffic free Silk Board junction, BBMP and BMRCL mutually agreed to share cost to build the flyover and metro track from Jayanagar 9th block,Ragigudda temple to Silk Board junction. The total project costs Rs 800 crore and BMRCL has already awarded the contract for the work to hit the ground soon.
This flyover was announced in 2016-17 state budget. The flyover will be four lane road covering roughly 4 km between the two points and is estimated to be worth Rs 330 crores. N Manjunath Prasad, BBMP Commissioner said, The project is discussed to be developed jointly by BBMP and BMRCL, so “BBMP has agreed to pay Rs 100 crores to BMRCL and the latter will execute the entire project.”
The old flyover at Silk Board and Jayadeva hospital junction will not be demolished. The new elevated road will serve as a deck for the upcoming interchange stations at both these traffic junctions like a ‘road cum rail’ flyover.
“The work for RV Road—Silk Board part of the 19 km route has already been awarded for developer and expected to complete in 27 months. The total cost of the road cum rail flyover will be Rs800 crores,” said Pradeep Singh Kharola, MD-BMRCL.
The 17-km Outer Ring Road (ORR) metro line proposed to be an extended part of the second phase of metro project, connects Silk Board junction with KR Puram and RV Road-Bommasandra line. There will be two tracks one each towards Electronic City and KR Puram and have one station each to serve towards the different corridors. This has lessened the land acquisition at Silk Board—two acres.
