Basavangudi is a haven for street food lovers and we’ve run out of the number of discoveries we’ve made in the area. From endless bajji shops like SLN Bajji Corner and dosa joints like Davanagere Benne Dosa to holige stalls like Mane Holigeand snack shops like Srinivasa Stores, if you are the person who loves to explore street food then you are in for a treat.

We visit Basavanagudi often and one such indulgent trips, we across a street cart selling coal-roasted baby corn. Of course, we had a to give it a shot, especially since the tiny baby corns looked tempting after we caught the vendor peeling off the corn silk husk to reveal steaming hot corn.

We asked for a Baby Corn Masala which came with chopped baby corn, topped simply with chaat masala and lemon. The smoky (from the coal), mildly sweet and tangy dish had us hooked from the first bite and was perfect for the rainy evening. Other options available at the cart include roasted sweet corn (fully grown) with various masala and topping options like mango (seasonal), ghee, butter, butter and more. And it’s all healthy, so we have nothing to complain (like we would otherwise).
